Runwise (www.runwise.com) is a fast-paced, customer-focused climate-tech startup that controls and runs the key energy systems (heating, water, etc.) in 6000+ buildings throughout the US. Runwise’s unique hardware and software service significantly reduces energy usage, substantially lowering costs and carbon output. As of today, Runwise’s technology takes the equivalent of 50,000 cars worth of carbon emissions off the road each year. Runwise has offices in New York and Boston but is a remote-first product/engineering company, and has been since its creation.

We’re seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to lead the development of high-impact features that improve user experience and drive customer satisfaction. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, implement, and iterate on frontend systems that interact with real-time data and control systems. Your efforts will directly increase our customers’ climate control savings, improve tenant comfort, and decrease our collective carbon footprint.

Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To

Being a core contributor to our React-based web applications, delivering responsive, reliable, and accessible interfaces
Collaborating closely with design, product, and backend teams to build new features that empower our users to monitor and control energy systems
Building reusable UI components and libraries with performance and scalability in mind
Helping define and improve frontend architecture and development standards
Monitoring performance and addressing UI-related issues, including usability, speed, and responsiveness
Ensuring a consistent experience across browsers and devices

Who You Are

You have 5+ years of frontend development experience, including 3+ years with React. Familiarity with modern React concepts, including state management, functional components, and hooks, is essential.
Experience with common React libraries including React Router, Recharts, Redux, Redux Toolkit and RTK-Query.
You are passionate about building great user experiences and working on complex, data-rich applications
You have strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills, and are comfortable with modern frontend tooling, including Vite, NextJS, Webpack, Babel, and ESLint
You are experienced with frontend automated testing technologies like Vitest, Jest, or Cypress
You’re comfortable working with REST APIs and collaborating with backend teams
Experience with Native iOS, Native Android, React Native, or mobile web development is a big plus

Salary: $140,000-$190,000 (varied on experience and market rate)
