The HashiCorp Cloud Identity engineering teams build and operate services that underpin user account, organization, authentication, and authorization management capabilities for all HashiCorp Cloud products. We make it easy for new users to get started with Consul, Nomad, Vault, Terraform, Packer, and Vagrant by making the sign-up flow as intuitive as possible. We help larger customers by making it easier for them to manage their users and groups in the cloud via standard and compliance-friendly protocols. These essential platform features must remain highly secure, scalable, and reliable as our customers depend on them to manage their infrastructure.
What You’ll Do (responsibilities)
As the Senior Engineering Manager for the Access Control team, you will lead the engineering efforts to design, build, launch and operate authorization services. These services are responsible to maintain organization, projects and provide RBAC support for all of HCP. You will take the team on a mission to evolve the architecture of the Identity services as we scale our platform to meet the growing demands of our users and customers. Applicants should be comfortable playing a mix of roles, including management and coaching, product guidance and support, partnering with other engineering teams, and technical vision and guidance.

Work closely with Product Management, Design, and Principal engineers to develop a strategy and an engineering roadmap to ensure systems meet the reliability, performance, and latency goals
Lead multiple project teams and collaborate with peers in security, platform, compliance, and product engineering teams
Cultivate excellence in the reliability, scalability, security, and craft of the software your team builds
Contribute to company-wide initiatives led by our engineering management, recruitment, and people teams
Take a pragmatic approach to solving business problems and balancing them with the career aspirations of the team
Translate vision to execution for key initiatives in partnership with senior leadership
Engage on topics such as performance, security, compliance and user interactions in complex systems
Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the Cloud Platform Services and broader EPD organizations
Drive the engineering, delivery, and operationalization of mission-critical Cloud Platform and PaaS capabilities, ensuring full alignment with our global CPS teams
What You’ll Need (basic Qualifications)
You have a minimum of 4+ years people management experience
Have a strong technical background (8+ years) in relevant engineering domains
Have a demonstrated working knowledge of distributed systems concepts
Have experience developing applications and services in a public cloud infrastructure AWS or Azure
Have strong knowledge of reliability concepts and have hands-on experience owning a critical SLO
Been responsible for critical production facing applications or services
Have strong engineering experience and passion for continuous learning
You lead with empathy and compassion with a focus on career development
You have successfully led remote teams
What’s Nice To Have (preferred Qualifications)
Experience in an Identity domain or working in a platform engineering team
Passionate about automation; creating leverage through software development
You have previous experience with Incident management and on-call practices
Successfully created operational improvements to complex infrastructure/software
You have led teams that delivered infrastructure/software at scale
You have operated high scale SaaS offerings with a microservice architecture written in Golang
Individual pay within the range will be determined based on job related-factors such as skills, experience, and education or training.
The base pay range for this role in the SF Bay Area / NYC area is:
$242,300—$285,000 USD
The Base Pay Range For This Role In California (excluding SF Bay Area), New York (excluding NYC), Seattle Metro, Denver / Boulder Metro, Washington D.C., Or Maryland Is:
$222,100—$261,300 USD
The Base Pay Range For This Role In Colorado (excluding Denver / Boulder Metro), Illinois, Minnesota, Or Washington (excluding Seattle Metro) Is:
$201,900—$237,500 USD
