Job Description
The Role
The Junior Packaging Designer supports the development of product packaging by assisting the Packaging Designer and the Creative team in creating functional, brand-aligned, and visually appealing packaging solutions. This role combines creativity with attention to detail, ensuring that all packaging meets MaryRuth’s brand guidelines, communicates product value, and adheres to technical/production and compliance requirements. This is a full-time (40h/week), paid, hourly, non-exempt, remote position.
Responsibilities
Creative Asset Development & Execution
Prepare consistent print-ready artwork alongside the Compliance team, ensuring that all brand guidelines, legal requirements, and deadlines are met.
Adapt existing packaging designs across formats, sizes, and product lines.
Support the development and refinement of MaryRuth’s packaging assets to ensure consistency across all touchpoints.
Collaboration
Work closely with MaryRuth’s Product Development and Compliance teams to support in creating new and updated packaging that aligns with regulatory requirements and translating brand and product needs into clear, compelling packaging solutions that enhance the customer experience.
Share design drafts and packaging mockups for review and feedback.
Brand Consistency & Optimization
Maintain MaryRuth’s brand guidelines and ensure that all creative outputs adhere to established standards.
Continuously refine design templates and asset libraries for improved efficiency.
Team Contribution
Ensure that Creative has appropriate access to renders within DB and Bynder.
Support the flow of communication to keep the team informed around new products coming down the pipeline.
Research trends, materials, and competitor packaging for inspiration.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Some travel (<5%) may be required on an as-needed basis, with advance notice provided to the employee.
Qualifications
1-2 years of relevant experience in packaging design, preferably with at least 1 year in a coordinator or similar role.
Intermediate proficiency in design software is required, preferably Adobe Illustrator. Experience with Photoshop is strongly preferred, and familiarity with tools like Slack, Asana or other project management tools, and Propel is a plus.
Demonstrated experience in packaging design for DTC and Retail is preferred; CPG experience also a plus.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to present creative ideas effectively.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
This role involves sitting most of the time but may also involve moving for brief periods of time.
