Communications Department
Independent Women’s Forum is seeking a dedicated intern to serve as a social media intern in our communications department. Independent Women’s social media intern will learn processes to use social media effectively and proficiently—using all major social media platforms and social media management tools.
Types of Activities Include:
Helping develop ideas for impact-oriented social media strategies that increase brand awareness, issue education and advocacy, and messaging priorities
Assisting in drafting error-free and engaging content for social media
Working with design and digital team members to produce social media creative visual content that informs, engages, and delivers results
Interacting with social media followers and responding to messages, inquiries, and comments
Monitoring private Facebook group content, ensuring members adhere to guidelines
Providing accurate social media metrics to other team members and within reports, where needed
Tracking social media metrics internally and analyzing trends to determine what is working well and what is not
Remaining aware of public discourse surrounding our brand and supporting in rapid response where necessary
Helping cultivate an active and engaged audience on social media
Requirements:

Have excellent time management skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities
Be a self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced virtual organization
Have a strong work ethic, and be impact-oriented
Do the right things the right way
Have attention to detail and a keen eye for proofreading copy
Be teachable and eager to learn
Be a strong copywriter
Be approachable, friendly, positive, and professional
Basic awareness of news, policy, and current affairs
An understanding of social networks, knowledge of social media best practices, and emerging trends and platforms in digital media
Be able to adhere to brand voice and tone
Proven ability to share policy-related content in an engaging way
Other Details:
The social media intern reports to Independent Women’s social media manager.
Independent Women operates as a virtual office. While we maintain regular working hours, our virtual office means staff spends more time getting things done and less time sitting in traffic. Still, we understand the importance of personal relationships, which is why we remain in constant daily communication, hold weekly department calls, and host annual in-person meetings.
Interns at Independent Women will receive a stipend, one-on-one guidance and connection with like-minded women.
