CommonLit is a nonprofit education technology organization dedicated to ensuring that all students, especially students in Title I schools, graduate with the reading, writing, communication, and problem-solving skills they need to be successful in college and beyond. The Opportunity
CommonLit’s engineering team works in a collaborative, high-trust environment where we ship great software to power CommonLit’s curriculum and to assist teachers in fostering and assessing their students’ growth. The Junior Software Engineer contributes to projects with their own code and thinking, reviews the work of their teammates, and advances CommonLit’s mission.

Responsibilities
Writing high-quality Ruby and React code and tests for our Ruby on Rails application
Working with our product and design teams to build the best solutions for our users
Reviewing your teammates’ work in our code review workflow
Taking your turn in our extended business-hours on-call rotation (we have an off-hours and weekends on-call rotation that is voluntary and paid)
Deploying and operating our Rails application in production
Qualifications
0-2+ years of web development experience
Familiarity with Ruby on Rails through either prior experience, bootcamp, or a personal project
Familiarity with JavaScript, preferably with some kind of front-end framework (React, Vue, etc.)
Ability to work comfortably in SQL (we use PostgreSQL)
Strong written and communication skills

Physical And Additional Requirements
This role involves prolonged periods in a stationary position at a desk and working on a computer

Salary: $85,000 – $100,000
