About The Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team at Standard Metrics. This is a unique opportunity to have a significant impact on our core product and influence the company’s culture and strategic direction at an early stage. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working outside their comfort zone, wearing multiple hats, and contributing to various aspects of product development. Your primary responsibility will be designing, developing, and maintaining the backend infrastructure that powers our platform. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product management and engineering, to define features, improve system performance, and ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions. As part of our remote-first environment, you will also contribute to fostering a collaborative and inclusive company culture, participate in hiring efforts, and help shape the future of Standard Metrics.

Qualifications

3+ years of professional backend development experience
Proficiency in Python, with experience in Django framework preferred
Strong track record of building and deploying web applications from scratch
Experience with modern infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, CircleCI (preferred but not mandatory)
Understanding of modern software development practices including Gitflow, continuous integration, and peer code reviews
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude towards learning and innovation

Responsibilities

Design, architect, and develop the core backend components of Standard Metrics’ platform
Take ownership of entire features and systems, ensuring their robustness through iteration, documentation, and bug fixes
Collaborate with product teams to scope and define features that align with company goals and values
Support and improve existing infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and performance
Participate actively in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes to maintain high-quality standards
Contribute to shaping company culture and assist in hiring new team members
Stay updated with emerging technologies and incorporate best practices into development workflows
