As a Staff Front End Software Engineer at Topstep, you’ll play a foundational role in guiding how we design, build, and evolve the systems that power our trader experience. You’ll work at the intersection of architecture, delivery, and product strategy, leading cross-team efforts, defining long-term engineering patterns, and helping elevate the quality of both our code and our culture. This role is ideal for someone who brings a blend of hands-on execution and high-level vision, someone who’s excited to work across boundaries, challenge assumptions, and push for elegant solutions that scale with intention. Key Responsibilities

Partner with Product Managers and designers to architect intuitive, responsive trading interfaces
Lead frontend development efforts and provide technical guidance to the team
Develop and maintain scalable React component libraries and design systems
Work closely with our backend team to design efficient GraphQL integrations
Drive performance optimization initiatives because every millisecond counts in trading
Champion best practices in frontend development and establish UI/UX standards
Mentor team members through code reviews and knowledge sharing sessions
Help shape the technical roadmap and future of how traders interact with financial markets

Must Have Skills

Required Key Qualifications and Key Competencies

3+ years of hands-on React development experience
6+ years total in full-stack or frontend development – we value the depth of experience you bring!
Strong foundation in TypeScript and modern web technologies
Experience with state management (Zustand, Context API, or similar)
Proven track record of building scalable, maintainable frontend architectures
Eye for design and passion for creating exceptional user experiences
Natural collaborator who enjoys working with cross-functional teams
Leadership mindset – comfortable mentoring, reviewing code, and setting technical direction
Enthusiasm for learning and staying current with frontend trends

Technical Skills

Proficiency in React, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3
Experience with modern frontend tooling (Vite, Bun, npm/yarn)
Strong GraphQL knowledge – we’re all-in on GraphQL!
Understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility
Knowledge of frontend testing frameworks (Vitest, React Testing Library, etc.)

Preferred Skills

Bonus points if you have experience with:

Zustand or similar lightweight state management solutions
Modern frontend architectures (micro-frontends, module federation)
Data visualization libraries (D3.js, Chart.js, or similar)
WebSockets or real-time data streaming
Performance optimization and monitoring tools
Trading platforms or financial applications
Design systems and component library development
GraphQL schema design and Apollo Client
Accessibility standards and WCAG compliance
Bun runtime and Vitest testing framework
Frontend build optimization and CI/CD pipelines
Team leadership or mentoring experience

New Hire Base Salary Range

$180,000-$250,000
Bonus: This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus as provided by the plan terms and governing documents.
The compensation offered will take into account internal compensation structure and may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
