About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Web Designer/Developer to join our team supporting the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) operations at the National Science Foundation (NSF). In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the digital infrastructure that supports this large-scale, high-profile program. Your expertise will ensure the digital presence is accessible, secure, and user-friendly for a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, and government personnel. The position requires managing both front-end and back-end development, implementing cloud-based solutions utilizing Drupal CMS and AWS technologies, and ensuring compliance with federal accessibility standards such as Section 508. This is a remote position with occasional meetings at the NSF headquarters in Alexandria, VA, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to a significant federal initiative while working in a dynamic, supportive environment.
Qualifications

5+ years of experience in full-stack web development, including front-end and back-end technologies
Proficiency with cloud platforms, especially AWS, and experience deploying enterprise applications
Strong expertise in federal web accessibility standards, including Section 508 compliance
Extensive experience with Drupal CMS development, customization, and deployment
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and server-side programming languages
Demonstrated ability to implement DevOps practices for continuous integration and deployment
Experience working with large public-facing websites, grant systems, or academic portals
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with government staff, faculty, and students
Experience responding promptly to technical requests and troubleshooting issues
Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain web applications supporting the Graduate Research Fellowship Program
Implement and manage both front-end and back-end technologies to ensure seamless user experiences
Manage Drupal CMS environments, including customization, deployment, and ongoing maintenance in AWS
Ensure all digital assets and applications comply with Section 508 accessibility standards and best practices
Create responsive, intuitive, and accessible interfaces for program participants and stakeholders
Coordinate with NSF staff and stakeholders to gather requirements and implement solutions accordingly
Apply DevOps practices for automated testing, continuous integration, and deployment pipelines
Respond promptly to inquiries, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support as needed
Document code, configurations, and system processes in accordance with best practices
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize web performance, security, and usability
