About The Role

We are seeking a skilled Web Developer to join our client’s team based in Phoenix, AZ, on a hybrid work basis. This is a contract position initially lasting six months, with the possibility of extension based on project requirements and performance. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing website updates and enhancements to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 standards, thereby improving accessibility and user experience. Working under the supervision of the assistant director of IT and the deputy assistant director of Communications, Research and Marketing, you will play a vital role in maintaining and optimizing the organization’s digital presence.

The primary focus of this role is to utilize content management systems, specifically Acquia Optimize and related CMS tools, to identify and implement fixes related to accessibility, broken links, and images. You will collaborate with external software vendors and internal teams to ensure that website releases are functioning correctly and meet accessibility standards. This position demands a proactive approach, attention to detail, and strong technical expertise in web development and accessibility compliance.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in web development technologies, with proven experience in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Experience with backend integration, such as Node.js and SQL, is highly desirable. Familiarity with content management systems, particularly Acquia, and accessibility standards like WCAG 2.2 are essential. Candidates should have a good understanding of responsive design principles, web performance optimization, and security best practices. Strong debugging and testing skills are necessary to identify issues and implement effective solutions. Additionally, experience working with version control systems like Git and collaborating with cross-functional teams will be advantageous.

Applicants must have demonstrated experience in making website updates within a CMS environment, troubleshooting accessibility issues, and working with external vendors on software releases. Effective communication skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions from supervisors are crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

Perform website updates through the content management system to enhance accessibility, ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.2 A and AA standards.
Utilize Acquia Optimize to identify issues such as broken links, broken images, and accessibility mitigation opportunities.
Make necessary updates within the CMS based on feedback and guidance from the deputy assistant director of Communications, Research and Marketing.
Compile and document a list of fixes, submitting them for review and approval to the assistant director of IT.
Monitor the website continuously for additional accessibility improvements and recommend necessary changes.
Collaborate with third-party software vendors during website releases to implement fixes and verify post-release functionality.
Maintain detailed records of updates, fixes, and testing procedures to ensure transparency and accountability.
Stay informed about the latest web development trends, accessibility standards, and best practices to enhance website quality.
