What You’ll Do Our Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Division within Ascend Learning’s Advance Technologies Organization is seeking a motivated, energetic AI Engineer Intern for Summer 2026 with a background in artificial intelligence and software engineering. The ideal candidate will be passionate about developing and implementing AI solutions that can scale and drive real-world impact. This internship will provide hands-on experience in AI engineering and an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies. As an AI Engineer Intern, you will collaborate closely with our team of expert AI Engineers, data scientists, AI architects, and quality engineers. You will contribute to the development and deployment of AI models and systems that power our innovative learning solutions. WHERE YOU’LL WORK This position will ideally work hybrid from our Leawood, KS office. Remote candidates will be considered. How You’ll Spend Your Time Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to understand business challenges and translate them into technical AI solutions Design and develop scalable AI solutions that integrate with our existing products and services. Build interactive demos and proof-of-concept applications to showcase AI solutions and their potential business impact Contribute to the evaluation and integration of new AI technologies and tools into our tech stack. Leverage Azure AI services including Azure OpenAI Service, Azure Search, and other Azure services for developing and deploying AI solutions Thoroughly document and manage project requirements, data, and technical details to ensure continuity and reference for future projects What You’ll Need Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related technical field Strong programming skills in Python with knowledge of software development best practices and design patterns Basic understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP) concepts and experience with transformer-based models is a plus Experience with large language models (LLMs), LangChain, and prompt engineering is a plus Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Azure AI services and Azure ML Strong problem solving, strong conceptual thinking, and effective communication skills Fostering A Sense of Belonging We seek out and celebrate all people and perspectives and cultivate an inclusive culture where everyone can thrive, feel valued and be their authentic selves.
